Shorboto Mongolo Radhe Lyrics
Chanchal & Shaon

Shorboto Mongolo Radhe English Translation
All auspicious Radha, the delightful Rai,
And the flute-playing Lord of Vrindavan, Kanai (Krishna).
Radha goes alone to the Yamuna to fetch water,
While Krishna looks at her stealthily from behind.
“Fill your pitcher with water, oh daughter of the cowherd,
Please fill my pitcher too, Radha, I request you.”
(Radha replies:) “The dark gem reaches out to catch the moon,
Can a dwarf ever touch the moon just by reaching out?”
(Krishna says:) “Don’t taunt me for being dark, oh cowherd’s daughter,
The Creator made me dark, what can I do?
One dark thing is the water of the Yamuna, which all creatures drink,
And the other dark thing is me, Krishna, whom all the Radhas desire.”
Hearing this, Radha proceeds to fetch the water,
But why does my Krishna get upset at this?
“Why would I be upset, why would I be upset?
I just want to share a few words of good and bad with you.”
Hearing this, Kanai takes his flute in his hand,
The dark flute turns into a snake and bites Radha.
It bites her right foot and she grasps her left foot,
Crying “I am dying, I am dying,” Radha falls to the ground.
(Krishna says:) “You won’t die, you won’t die, Radha, I know good chants,
With a couple of spells, I will turn the poison into water.”
(Radha promises:) “Whoever can remove the poison from my body,
I will surrender this golden youth of mine to him.”
Hearing this, Kanai extracts the poison,
Brushing herself off, Radha goes back home.
Going home, Radha gently combs her hair,
Sitting on the branch of the Kadamba tree, Kanai throws a flower at her.
“Why don’t you get married, Kanai, why don’t you get married?
You burn with jealousy looking at other women!”
“I will surely marry, Radha, I will marry,
But where will I find a bride as beautiful as you?”
“If you want a beautiful Radha like me,
Tie a pitcher around your neck and drown in the Yamuna.”
(Krishna replies:) “Where will I find a bone-pitcher, where will I find a rope?
You become the Yamuna, Radha, and I will gladly drown in you.”
“If you want a beautiful young woman like me,
Tie a pitcher around your neck and drown in the Yamuna.”
“Where will I find a bone-pitcher, where will I find a rope?
You become the Yamuna, Radha, and I will gladly drown in you.”
(Key Theme)
